…I know better than to discuss ‘politico’ on the ‘internets’ but I can’t help it, my manties are in a bunch over a specific topic.
The Supreme Court was busy today “considering” the right to bear arms (that means own a gun). I’m sorry, did I seriously miss something?
”Considering?”
The last time I checked “the right to bear arms” was the Second Amendment.
My ranting isn’t going to solve anything so I’ll just play a song. The ladies have Hillary and Oprah so the Gentlemen have this:
There’s not much that I care to elaborate on as far as “gun control” goes. I will say this though:
-Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. There are plenty of laws that prevent convicted criminals from owning a firearm…”blaming guns for somebody getting killed is like blaming your pencil for misspelled words.”
-Providing that I ever have a daughter and she lives alone, she will own a handgun (after passing gun safety class of course). Women who live alone should take note of this; it’s for YOUR protection.
This is going to be a fun election…
You so crack me up. Thanks for the heads up on the post…I know you’re expecting me to unleash someway somehow in favor of gun control…not gonna happen.
(I thought I loaned you that “economics with a twist” book…while it doesn’t talk specifically about this subject, it does talk about some other stuff that’s related that should probably give you a better sense of where I stand.)
Anyway, also loved the song. A new one on me…
HA… I don’t expect a “diatribe” from you JMAC!
Enjoy the comments…I’m sure you’ll get a few!
Not likely.
Handgun for you after flyfishing lessons? Ah yes, even Washington has loopholes…
It’ll be like fishing…first I have to try it and decide I like it, then maybe I’ll buy the stuff that goes with it.
You would be so proud.
Jmac, you told me the story about a ‘weirdo’ breaking into your neighbor’s condo and she was helpless, all she could do was scream…It could have easily been you…You live in a very nice area too. You never know…
If you own a handgun and someone breaks into your place you simply shoot the son of a bitch (aim for the arm)…Plain and simple.
JMAC, get real – get armed. Women are especially vulnerable. If you are uncomfortable with a handgun, at least carry pepper spray. Random crap happens every day. And you can have lots of fun trying it out on jj.
Yesterday was a good day in the Supreme Court – I listened to the oral arguments and it looks like it is in the bag. No decision until June though.
So Dan, am I supposed to practice on JJ with the pepper spray or the gun? Ha.
A little clarification for the masses….my neighbor didn’t even know the ‘weirdo’ was in her condo until he tried to roll over on top of her. I could be masterful with a gun and it still wouldn’t have helped in that situation (unless it was conveniently stored under my pillow…and he conveniently looked away while I grabbed it…).
Anyways, in order for a gun to be useful at all, the person who owns it would have to be willing to actually shoot it. Maybe I would be, maybe I wouldn’t be…how could I possibly know whether or not I could actually shoot someone until it came time to actually pull the trigger?
“So Dan, am I supposed to practice on JJ with the pepper spray or the gun?” Yes.
“Anyways, in order for a gun to be useful at all, the person who owns it would have to be willing to actually shoot it. Maybe I would be, maybe I wouldn’t be…how could I possibly know whether or not I could actually shoot someone until it came time to actually pull the trigger?”
A good question that takes a lot of internal reflection. If a guy was attempting to rape you I certainly hope the answer is YES, shoot the son of a bitch.
To me this is a no brainer. To others is it not so clear.
Gun ownership is a responsibility. If you are not sure you would ever shoot one in a stressful situation, don’t buy one. Or buy one for target practice (I recommend a .22LR pistol) – shooting target is fun and very relaxing.
I had an incident at my house several years ago where I seriously thought my safety and the safety of my family were in danger – that is why I am now armed. And I live in a lilly white suburb that is relatively crime free, not in the inner city. Random acts of violence and other insane things can happen ANYWHERE.
It is my responsibility to protect my wife and kids in any situation, be it a common robber, or a terrorist walking down the street spraying bullets indiscriminately. With this mindset you can see how it would be very easy for me to pull the trigger.
Even with an arsenal I can’t protect them at school or while I am at work, so I am at times at the mercy of others even though I am prepared for the worst.
My wife is not comfortable carrying a gun so she does not and carries pepper spray. It is really up to you to decide what you need. Just remember, the cops won’t be there for you when you need them.
There you go jmac, I couldn’t have said it better except for that part about practicing on me.
But that was my favorite part…
Shocker…
Also, Jmac: If I can get my work load done early today I might be fishing at GLake later (I’m seriously jonesing)…
I’ll give you a ring and maybe you can come meet me. Don’t forget the soy sauce.
