Huskies vs. Oregon

UPDATE: Oregon kicked the…Uh, ducks won…

Whew, what a hectic week…Thank god for Saturday and a long weekend…It’s time to kickoff the 08 CFB season!!!

The Huskies visit the much hated Ducks in Eugene tomorrow night in the ‘Columbia Cup’ or ‘Border war’ or ‘UW vs those damn dirty hippies’ (this heated rivalry really needs a name)…’Malamute’ has a good story about it here.

Husky fans attending the game should be aware of flying bottles and asshole ducks fans (who I’m sure will be good and lubed by kickoff tomorrow night)…

Don’t forget to use the ‘Bellotti Potty.’

…Looking forward to a few libations and talking football smack here. Join in the fun if you dare…

Lets go DAWGS and suck it Whoregon!

You better Belize it!

One of the things my bff brought with her on this trip was a CD with pictures from our trip to Belize earlier this year.  As I was looking at them, it all came back to me…so even though this happened awhile ago, I couldn’t resist ‘talking up’ the trip because it was truly one of the coolest places I’ve ever been…

For the first three days we stayed in the jungle at a ‘resort’ in the Cayo District (Western Belize).  We slept in ‘cabanas’ with thatched roofs and no electricity…we did have hot and cold running water.  Everything was ‘open air’ but we had mosquito netting over our beds, so it was nice to be able to listen to the jungle while you fell asleep.  The bugs were actually relatively mild when we went, although at least one night my roommate on the trip woke up and was thrashing around because she had a BIG bug in bed with her…

A visit from my bff…

My bff moved away to Virginia Beach about a year and a half ago…it seems like it’s been a LONG year and a half!  I’ve seen her quite a few times…she’s come home…I’ve visited her there…we take vacations together…but we are both HORRIBLE about the whole phone calls, emails, text messaging thing.  And no matter what, it’s just not the same as having her here.

So she’s been in town for the past week, and we have had a blast, getting together and catching up ~ eating, drinking, and being merry!

First stop was a trip to West Seattle to get her haircut.  The guy who’s been cutting both our hair for years works in a salon over there, so we ended up hanging out with him and his friends at an Irish bar and, um, just hanging out.

Then we hit her favorite Mexican restaurant…El Camino in Fremont.  Love the margaritas!

And then tonight was the big ‘blowout’ at our favorite Italian restaurant in Belltown…friends spanning high school, college (go Dawgs!!), and more, all gathered together to see her.  Funny, I thought some of them were bringing their husbands…hmmm…the first question the waiter asked was “All ladies tonight?”  Ha!

Barbie Pole…

Heh, this guy caught a (N.C) state record 21 pound channel cat using 6lb ‘line:’

And his granddaughter’s Barbie ‘Pole:’

HA…Kind of a dubious honor…I’d be ashamed to tell my buddies…

That’s pretty amazing though…I would have laughed my ass off watching this guy ‘reel’ it in…

Packin’ 10…(part 5/5)

Time to wrap-up the 100% biased pac-10 predictions…Also posted at the Saturday Football Update.

 Washington Huskies (2007 results: 4-9, 2-7 pac-10)

…Can Montlake Jake ‘superman’ Locker lead this team to the promised land? You betcha…

…All of our opponents will be gunning for him…If he gets injured it’s going to be an ugly season..

Luckily, the Huskies have one of the better offensive lines in the conference (even with injuries) and they are hell-bent on protecting #10…The DAWGS are going to be an AWESOME offensive explosion this year…

Defense? Uh…Well, um…uh…We’ll put some players on the field!?

The ‘bar’ has been set: 6-6 record or goodbye to Willingham. It’s completely ridiculous if you ask me, the last thing this team needs is another coaching change. We’ve recruited well and getting rid of Willingham isn’t going to make things better. \”Give Ty his 5, no Irish jive,\”

Can this team reach six wins with one of the toughest schedules in the country? I hope so. Husky nation is drooling for a bowl game…

Yep, an 0-3 start is likely against three top 25 teams: opener at Oregon, then the Mormons (BYU) and Oklahoma at home…Eeeew, ugly…

However, a 4-game win streak is possible after that: Stanford, at Arizona, Oregon State and then a media-hyped game against Notre Dame…Willingham really needs to win THAT game…

Naturally, I’ll be posting plenty about my beloved Dawgs during the season…So, I’ll just make this prediction, wait for the hate mail from fellow Dawgs and hope that the Huskies prove me wrong (for the better)…

2008 prediction: 5-7, 8th in the pac-10

 Washington State Cougars (2007 results: 5-7, 3-6 pac-10)

What am I supposed to say about the Cougs?  Hmmm…The positives:

New coach Paul Wulff seems like a good fit and I actually like the guy (for now)..They have a promising young QB in Gary Rogers and they have one of the nation’s best receivers in Brandon Gibson…We’ll see how they do with Wulff’s no-huddle offense…

They play Portland State so that should be at least ONE win! Oh, sheep are abundant and kegs of PBR are still cheap…

The not-so-positive: Lost scholarships due to poor academics thus resulting in poor recruiting…Then, there are the problems with the ‘law’ and a few arrests…They’re looking at some bleak years ahead…

I’ll quote an unnamed player after he was asked WHY there are so many ‘problems’ in Pullman: “There’s nothing to do but study and play football.”

Well, Duuuuuuuuuh!…I got a good laugh out of that one.

While it’s easy to make fun of them I honestly hope that coach Wulff can get this program rolling again…I’m one of the ‘rare’ Huskies that quietly cheers for the Cougs when we aren’t playing them (I have a few friends that are Cougars)…Besides, I hate Oregon more.

The Cougs open against Oklahoma State (in Seattle at Seahawk Stadium)…They have a 13 game schedule and will end the season in Hawaii after the Apple Cup…They might win a game or two in between…Cheers, Cougs.

2008 prediction: 3-10, 10th in the pac-10

Packin’ 10…(part 4)

100% biased and ignorant pac-10 predictions continued:

Oregon Ducks (2007 results: 9-4, 5-4 pac-10). Beat South Florida in the Sun Bowl.

…Ask any UW Husky which team they ‘hate’ the most and the answer will likely be “Those gotdamn Ducks.”

The UW-Whoregon rivalry has grown significantly over the past few years mostly because Duck fans are jerks, especially at Autzen stadium. I know there are a few ‘decent’ Duck fans out there but a few bad apples have ruined it all…

At the game in Seattle last year, I only saw 7 duck fans get arrested and I didn’t see them spat on any elderly Husky fans this time! I even managed to share my beer and have a civil conversation with a few young duck fans while tailgating and they were actually pretty nice kids…Maybe they’re finally learning some class, but I doubt that you’ll get the same hospitality in Eugene…

This hurts to say but I’ll give credit where credit is due: In my opinion, Oregon was the best team in the country last year until QB Dixon went down. I obviously watched every pac-10 team play and Oregon stood out…They were impressive.

Well, although they lost Dixon and Stewart they ‘should’ be back in the hunt for the pac-10 title. If they can find a leader at QB they’ll be tough. The defense is there and the secondary is probably the best in the pac-10…

Their only ‘unfavorable’ is the road schedule against the ‘better’ pac-10 teams: at USuC, ASU, Cal and then the ‘Civil War’ at Oregon State…

Are they the 2nd best team in the pac-10? I hope not. They definitely get the “gheyest looking uniform” award though…

2008 prediction: 9-3, 2nd in the pac-10.

Oregon State Beavers (2007 results: 9-4, 6-3 pac-10). Beat Maryland in the Emerald Bowl.

…Hmmm… Lets do a cheer:

-What do we eat, What do we eat!?

-Beaver meat, Beaver meat!

-How do we like it, How do we like it!?

-RAW, RAH, RAW!

Ridiculous, I know…

Ah, the Beavers…I’ll admit that I have a ‘soft spot’ for the Beavers. Why? Because they hate the Ducks as much as I do. Also, they’re always an abrasive, bare-bones kind of team and I admire that…Don’t get me wrong though, they can still suck it…

Part of me wants to pick this team to finish in the ‘upper-part’ of the pac-10 this year…QB Lyle Moevao has the potential and senior split end Sammie Stroughter  will return this year…The offensive line is strong so I expect them to put-up some points…The weak spot is defense with only 3 starters returning but the talent is there…

…Non-conference games at Jopa’s Penn State (the ‘other’ beaver stadium), Hawaii and Utah will be tough but I suspect that this team will surprise you and shake-up the pac-10 this year…

2008 prediction: 6-6, 5th in the pac-10.

Next up: The Mighty DAWGS and the lowly Cougs.

There are fish in that lake?

With a Robert Earl Keen song stuck in my head (some of yous bass angler guys know the one) I spent most of the weekend out chasing those little green bastards…

…Fishing the lakes that nobody else will even consider because the WDFW doesn’t stock them? Yep, right up my alley…Oh, the Warshingtonlakes site doesn’t have any good reports on them either…Heh…

Jmac did a post here a few weeks ago about me getting ‘Skunked’ and she thought it was funnier than shi’ite…Well, I did get skunked that day…It was a new lake and I didn’t ‘land’ any fish but I got ‘bit’ plenty…It happens…

So, Jmac and I went back to that specific lake today to even the score. Man, what a tough lake…Those little green bastards are picky…It was nice to finally put the ‘jimmy houston’ hook-set to one:

Giddy-up:

Ooops, I have a ‘dip of copey’ (chew) in that pic…sorry mom…

…How about this one:

Yeah, those will ‘weigh-in’ just fine…I think there are fish in that lake…

Like always, Jmac and I had a blast shootin’ the shite and fishing until dark…

Whew, I’m tired…Where’s the beer and my ‘3 dolla’  Jmac?!
